Dr. Nicholas Sutingco is Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Inova Fair Oaks and the Medical Director for the hospital’s Clinical Decision Unit, Stroke Clinical Effectiveness Team, and the Simulation Medicine Lab. He was the 2011 recipient of the Northern Virginia EMS Council’s Outstanding EMS Physician Award and the 2012 recipient of a hospital-wide Service Award at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. Dr. Sutingco’s areas of interest include advanced airway management, simulation medicine, emergency ultrasound, and critical care procedures. He was the lead author for the Manual of Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound (1st Ed).
After graduating with a degree in neuroscience from Brown University, Dr. Sutingco received his medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine, graduating summa cum laude in 2001. He completed his specialty training in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School and later began as an Assistant Clinical Professor at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He has worked at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Fauquier Hospital since 2005. In 2006, Dr. Sutingco joined the City of Fairfax Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services, and in 2011 he took on the role of Deputy Operational Medical Director. A VEMA partner since 2009, Dr. Sutingco serves on the executive committee for the Inova Health System.
