The Department of Emergency Medicine at Fauquier Hospital has consistently earned recognition and accolades for its efficiency, safety, and patient satisfaction.Recently, the Fauquier Hospital ED was ranked 4th out of 18 Tier-1 Emergency Departments within the LifePoint system. This assessment looked at a composite measure of patient satisfaction, throughput, core measures, and the percentage of those who left without treatment.
As an integral part of a Planetree-designated hospital, the Fauquier ED team has always focused on improving the patient experience. For more than 15 years, Fauquier has maintained its prestigious Planetree designation by exceeding a set of high standards established to enhance patient satisfaction. The ED team is honored to embody the Planetree principles every day by providing innovative, effective, compassionate care in a comfortable environment.
In 2011, largely through the efforts of the Emergency Department, Fauquier Hospital received accreditation by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. During that time, the Fauquier ED successfully implemented a streamlined process of telemedicine with a remote neurology service. Additionally, the Fauquier Emergency Departmenthasrecently been accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.These accreditations and accomplishments reflect the Fauquier Emergency Department's ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care for every patient.
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital has been an engaged leader and contributor to many hospital-wide projects over the years. The Emergency Department has spearheaded multiple initiatives designed to improve the patient experience, patient flow, and the overall quality of the hospital. For example, ED leadership led a clinical effectiveness team to improve the quality of stroke care throughout the hospital. This initiative ultimately led to a Primary Stroke Center certification by The Joint Commission. In 2015, the AHA/ASA awarded Gold Plus and Target: Stroke Honor Roll quality awards to the ED leadership team and to the stroke program.

Physician leaders at VEMA and Fair Oaks have been key partners in broader health system-related initiatives as well. For example, the Fair Oaks leadership team helped devise and execute quality improvement initiatives for Signature Partners, a provider network affiliated with theInova Health System. Signature Partners, the only clinically integrated network in Northern Virginia, was created to improve quality and affordability in the healthcare system by aligning community physicians, hospital physicians, and hospitals in Northern Virginia. Working with Signature Partners is another way for VEMA physicians to share their expertise and help improve healthcare throughout Northern Virginia.
For years, Inova Fair Oaks emergency physicians have held leadership positions at system-level committees such as the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Services System Teams. Enthusiastic engagement, effective communication, and strong leadership have been fundamental to the success of the Inova Fair Oaks Department of Emergency Medicine.
